Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are passive index funds that are listed and traded like shares on stock exchanges. ETFs offer a low-cost, convenient and efficient means of trading a market or specialised index, sector or commodity through a single, exchange based transaction.
Corporate and Investment Banking is a leading provider of ETFs in the South African Market. Corporate and Investment Banking originated and operates eight ETFs, all of them listed on the JSE.
Corporate and Investment Banking pioneered, listed and operates NewRand, the first ETF in South Africa based on a proprietary investible index - the NewRand Index, comprising rand hedge stocks with the highest correlation to the Rand/USD exchange rate.
Corporate and Investment Banking broke new ground with the launch of NewGold - the first and only gold-backed ETF, and the largest ETF overall in the South African market. In addition NewGold was also the first Shari’ah compliant ETF available in South Africa.
Corporate and Investment Banking redefined the boundaries of the local ETF market with the listing of the first ETF based on fundamental indexation principles - eRAFI™ Overall ETF. Currently, we operate four eRAFI™ ETFs - eRAFI™ Overall and three sector eRAFI™ ETFs.
Corporate and Investment Banking also originated South Africa’s first BEE Exchange Traded Fund, the NewSA ETF. The NewSA ETF tracks the performance of the NewSA Index, a modified Top40 index, with the constituent weightings adjusted to reflect their respective BEE status, as determined using the Codes of Good Practices, on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment, published by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Finally, Corporate and Investment Banking originated South Africa's first and only Shari'ah equity ETF - Shari'ah 40 ETF - tracking the performance of the FTSE/JSE Shari'ah 40 Index of large cap JSE listed shares complying with Shari'ah principles of ethical investing.
