The Corporate and Investment Banking division of Barclays Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Phakamani Hadebe as Chief Executive of the firm’s South African operations.
Hadebe joins the Corporate and Investment Banking division from the Land and Agricultural Bank of South Africa (Land Bank), where he was the Chief Executive Officer from July 2008 to 2013. He joined the Land Bank initially as a secondment from the National Treasury, where he headed the asset and liability division.
In his new position, Hadebe will report directly to Stephen van Coller, Chief Executive of the Corporate and Investment Banking division for Barclays Africa. He has been tasked with the responsibility of further building out the firm’s substantial business in South Africa.
“I am delighted that Mr Hadebe has joined the Corporate and Investment Banking team at Barclays Africa and its executive committee. As a consequence of his concentrated focus on building out our substantial South African business, it will allow greater focus on deepening our resolve in the rest of Africa, and on matters of citizenship and innovation – all of which will better help our clients, in South Africa and across the continent, reach their ambitions and prosper,” said van Coller.
Hadebe brings with him a wealth of experience that will be invaluable in assisting the firm consolidate it position in South Africa, as well as realising its ambition of becoming the ‘Go-To’ corporate and investment bank in Africa.
