On the eve of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa 2013, Absa and Barclays will assemble some of the world’s most powerful business people, global leaders, entrepreneurs and Africa experts in Cape Town on 7 May 2013 under the banner of ‘Beyond Borders’. The gathering will focus on identifying and maximising the African opportunity, in the interests of continental development and global growth.
“We expect the insights provided by Beyond Borders to inform and guide progress on delivering Africa’s promise, the theme for the WEF on Africa this year,” said Kennedy Bungane, Chief Executive, Barclays Africa.
Speakers at Beyond Borders include: His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of Ghana and Chairman of African Union; Dr. Martyn Davies, Chief Executive Officer, Frontier Advisory; and Richard Dowden, Director, The Royal African Society.
Beyond Borders is an active demonstration of Barclays’ ‘One Bank’ in Africa strategy and an important step in realising its goal of becoming the ‘Go-To’ bank in Africa.
“Africa is central to Barclays and Absa’s ongoing strategy and a key differentiator for the combined businesses across the continent. Being the only fully local, fully global bank in Africa, Absa and Barclays are able to bring the best of both worlds to bear across the continent,” added Bungane.
In addition to the scheduled speakers, panel discussions will also look at critical success factors for doing business in Africa.
“Now more than ever, global investors and businesses are firmly focusing their growth aspirations and ambitions on Africa. We are therefore delighted to facilitate the exchange of expert research, knowledge and insights into these markets,” concluded Bungane.
